Instructors
Christa
I started practicing Bikrams Yoga in 2001. I knew after my first class that this was the exercise regime I have been looking for, for years. I was able to see many benefits even after just one class, I thought to myself, how will I feel after ten classes. Sure enough, after my third class, I knew I was going to be an instructor of this amazing form of yoga. I wanted to be in a position where I could give back what I received from my instructors, a chance to inspire as I had been inspired. I went to teacher training in the fall of 2003. Teacher training proved to be the best and worse 9 weeks of my life, though if asked if I'd ever do it again, in a heartbeat! The transformation I went through and continue to go through is one that amazes me on a daily basis. After graduating from the University of Victoria in 2005, I travelled to Australia for 10 months, where I taught for 7 different studios all along the east coast from Noosa to Melbourne. In 2006 I competed at the Western Canadian yoga competition and placed 2nd, qualifying me to compete at the International Yoga competition held in LA. WOW! What amazing places this yoga has taken me to, physically, emotionally, geographically and spiritually. The physical benefits are far less impressive than the emotional and mental benefits. I know that this yoga will always be a large part of my life. I am eternally grateful for Bikram and his guru Bishnu Gosh for bringing this wonderful series of yoga to the West. I am so very grateful for my instructors and students who inspire me equally.
Teaching Style
Christa's teaching style is focused primarily on the importance of body alignment and the physical benefits gained from the proper form of the postures and encourages students to challenge themselves while remaining present through breath and mindfulness.
Favorite Posture
Christa's favorite posture is Standing head to knee pose for the sheer amount of focus and determination it takes to do this posture in it's full expression.
Least Favorite Posture
Christa's least favorite posture is locust pose due to the mental frustrations that always seem to arise during this posture.
